Tips On Being Green (EARTH FRIENDLY)

The state of Michigan is a good model for the adoption of best practices for a greener, more earth-friendly lifestyle. With the wrath of global warming already in full effect upon our planet, the campaign for a greener world has led to inspiring planet conservation programs. Some of the good deeds one can do for Mother Earth include:

  1. SAVE TREES: Lighten your mail bag. There is a national campaign calling for paper waste reduction especially among offices, but the litter of envelopes containing solicitations, promotions, marketing catalogs and the like just keeps on coming. Join the campaign to stop these marketing ploys that exploits millions of trees year after year.
  2. SAVE AIR: Regularly check your car for leaks, freon emissions and filter pump fittings. Switch to more air-friendly fuel alternatives. For short distances, leave your car in the garage and walk. Schedule car pools and alternate your car with the public transport system.
  3. SAVE WATER: Preserve water by installing home fixtures like timed shower heads and faucet wrenches. A home can save up to 10,000 gallons of water a year by efficient use of fresh water supply. Hide the hose and bring out the broom. Traditional sweeping of yards, courts and lawns saves a great deal of water compared to hosing.
  4. SAVE OCEANS: Use home products that are plant-based, biodegradable and eco-friendly. Watch out for corrosives, bleach and chemicals in products like detergents, stain removers and cleansers that end up damaging bodies of water and killing marine resources.
  5. SAVE EARTH: The “I am not a plastic bag” campaign is one of the most successful promotion for ditching non-biodegradable plastic shopping bags in favor of natural-fibered bags. Ditch plastic bottled waters that are non-biodegradable and will litter the earth and seas for hundreds of years to come. Instead, get a water purifier or install a faucet filter and enjoy an even cleaner and safer tap water right in your own home. Patronize “green businesses” which offer recycled products and items made from natural or organic materials.
